Tiz the Law Cloe Wires the Melody of Colors

Lugamo Racing Stable’s Cloe Dominates in Turf Debut at Melody of Colors Stakes

Lugamo Racing Stable’s Cloe delivered a commanding wire-to-wire victory Sunday in the Melody of Colors Stakes at Gulfstream Park, marking both her turf debut and first start under trainer Jose D’Angelo.

The 3-year-old filly by Tiz the Law pressed through an opening quarter in :21.32 while battling favored Me Governor (The Factor) before pulling away in upper stretch to win by 1 3/4 lengths. She completed the five-furlong turf sprint in :54.83 as a 5-1 shot.

“I really liked this filly since she arrived at the barn. I think she’s special,” said D’Angelo after the race. “I spoke with the owner and we had plenty of options. I worked her two times, one time on the dirt and one time on the grass, and I said she’s definitely grass. That’s why we decided to go into this race, and she responded very well.”

The victory marks a successful surface switch for Cloe, who began her career with a debut win sprinting 5 1/2 furlongs over Gulfstream’s Tapeta surface on January 8. Her previous start resulted in a sixth-place finish when trying dirt at the mile and 40-yard distance in the February 8 Suncoast Stakes at Tampa Bay while under trainer Victor Barboza.

Cloe becomes the sixth stakes winner for her sire Tiz the Law, who was also represented Saturday by GII Louisiana Derby winner Tiztastic.

The winner is her dam Nuhood’s last registered foal, though Nuhood was sent to Atta Boy Roy for the current term. Cloe was purchased for $80,000 as a yearling at the 2023 Fasig-Tipton July sale.

Me Governor (The Factor) finished second under trainer Carlos A. David for owner Danbro Farms, LLC. Laurice (Bolt d’Oro) secured third place, earning her first black-type placement for owner Bregman Family Racing LLC and trainer George Weaver.

The $100,000 Melody of Colors Stakes for 3-year-old fillies was contested at five furlongs on the turf. With this victory, Cloe improves her lifetime record to two wins from three starts with earnings of $107,140.
