Zedan Racing has acquired a colt by Tiz the Law for $1.15 million during Wednesday’s second session of the OBS Spring Sale, continuing their aggressive purchasing strategy in the thoroughbred market.
The chestnut colt (hip 508) was consigned by Tom McCrocklin and is out of Taboo (Forestry), making him a half-brother to multiple stakes winner Let My People Go (Pioneerof the Nile). The promising prospect recorded an impressive quarter-mile workout last week in :20 3/5.
This acquisition follows Zedan’s record-breaking $3 million purchase of a Gun Runner colt at the OBS March sale last month, demonstrating the operation’s continued commitment to acquiring top-tier racing prospects.
McCrocklin, who previously topped the 2024 Spring sale with a $1.9-million daughter of Tiz the Law, originally purchased this colt for $150,000 at the Fasig-Tipton Saratoga sale last August—representing a substantial return on investment.
The sale highlights the growing commercial appeal of offspring by Tiz the Law, the GI Belmont Stakes winner whose first crop has been generating significant interest at thoroughbred auctions.
Industry observers note that Zedan Racing’s recent acquisitions position the operation as a major player in the high-end yearling and two-year-old markets heading into the 2025 racing season.
The OBS Spring Sale continues through Friday with additional select prospects expected to command premium prices.
