Oh, what a day it was at Oaklawn, folks! This Is Uscar, yep, that’s the kiddo of Oscar Performance, made quite the splash. And not just because the track was more mud than dirt on that dreary Friday, March 15, 2024.
The clock hit 5:09 pm, and there he was, ready to show the world what he’s got. This Is Uscar, with odds that had drifted from 5-1 to a surprising 9-1, wasn’t just there to participate. He was there to compete, to win.
Right from the get-go, This Is Uscar was all business, keeping pace just outside the leader, Capital Connection. Those two, they were like titans clashing, trading leads as if it were a matter of life and death. The fractions they set? Blistering, despite the slop.
But then, oh then, as they rounded off the turn, This Is Uscar decided it was showtime. With a burst of speed, he left everyone in his wake, crossing the finish line a whopping 6 1/2 lengths ahead. The crowd? Wild.
Now, let’s not forget about Journey On, This Is Uscar’s dam. She’s no stranger to the track herself and seems to be passing on her talent. There’s talk of a 2-year-old Blame colt and a newborn Honor A.P. colt, with another on the way from Karakontie (Jpn) for 2024.
Bought for $90,000 as a yearling back in ’22 at KEESEP, This Is Uscar has already started paying that back, with a cool $69,000 from his first race alone. Not too shabby, eh?
And for those who missed it, there’s always the replay, courtesy of TwinSpires Racing and that thrilling tweet from March 15. Trainer Jordan Blair and jockey Emmanuel Esquivel, you guys did good. Real good.
Owned by Table 38 Racing LLC and bred by KatieRich Farms in KY, This Is Uscar is a name we might just be hearing a lot more of. And I, for one, can’t wait to see what’s next.
So, there you have it. A debut that was anything but sloppy, except for the track, of course. This Is Uscar, remember the name. Because I’ve got a feeling this is just the beginning.
