Meet Red Knight, the GI Man o’ War S. winner who has officially retired to Old Friends in Georgetown, Kentucky. Bred, raced, and donated by owner Tom Egan of Trinity Farm, the 9-year-old Red Knight arrived at his new home on Tuesday, Nov. 7 after a successful career that included 38 races and earnings totaling $1,886,338. The highlight of his career came this year when he made history by becoming just the third 9-year-old to win a Grade I race in New York at Belmont Park on May 13.

According to Egan, Red Knight has a big personality and enjoys the company of people, but isn’t one to tolerate foolish behaviors from grooms or exercise riders. Egan expressed his gratitude to trainer Mike Maker, whose influence was crucial in helping the veteran runner secure the Man o’ War S. victory last year. Additionally, Old Friends President Michael Blowen shared his excitement about having the beloved Red Knight join their retirement farm, stating, “I adored Red Knight and knew that, at nine, his racing career was nearing the end. Tom was gracious enough to acknowledge my adoration and, now, his wonderful horse is here. What could be better?”

The arrival of Red Knight at Old Friends is a heartwarming reminder of the importance of providing thoroughbreds with a peaceful and comfortable retirement after their years of dedication and hard work in the racing industry. As Red Knight settles into his new home, he leaves behind a legacy of resilience and achievement, and serves as an inspiration to fellow equine athletes transitioning into their well-deserved retirement. We look forward to witnessing the next chapter of Red Knight’s life at Old Friends, where he can enjoy a tranquil and fulfilling retirement surrounded by love and care.
