Wet Weather Prompts Delaware Opening Day Cancellation

Delaware Park was forced to cancel its season-opening card Wednesday due to wet weather conditions throughout the Midlantic region, track officials announced.

The opening day program, which was scheduled to begin at 12:35 p.m. ET, featured eight races. Track management has not yet announced when or how these races might be rescheduled.

Racing at Delaware Park is expected to resume Saturday, May 17, with first post scheduled for 12:35 p.m.

The inclement weather affected multiple racing operations across the region. Morning training sessions at Pimlico Race Course ahead of the Preakness Stakes were conducted over sloppy surfaces, while the first under-tack session for the upcoming Fasig-Tipton Midlantic Sale also faced challenging conditions.

This weather system has created logistical challenges for horsemen preparing for the second leg of the Triple Crown as well as those participating in the regional sale scheduled for next week.

Delaware Park’s 2025 racing season will now effectively begin three days later than originally planned, pending suitable weather conditions for Saturday’s card.
