Fasig-Tipton announced Monday that Winchell Thoroughbreds secured a Gun Runner colt for $2.7 million, establishing the new high mark at the prestigious Saratoga sale.
The colt (hip 37), consigned by Stone Farm, is out of Grade Stakes Winner and Multiple Grade I Stakes-Placed America. The dam has already produced Multiple Graded Stakes Winner and Grade I Stakes-Placed First Captain (Curlin), who was previously designated a ‘TDN Rising Star’.
This acquisition continues Winchell’s strategic investment in Gun Runner progeny.
The seven-figure purchase represents significant bloodline value, connecting to a family that includes Grade I Stakes Winner Paris Lights (Curlin) — who herself commanded $3.1 million from Spendthrift at Keeneland November in 2021.
America’s Best Racing captured the moment on social media, sharing video of the striking colt as he established himself as the sale’s top lot.

The transaction highlights the continued market strength for offspring by Gun Runner, whose progeny have demonstrated exceptional performance on track in recent seasons.
Stone Farm representatives expressed satisfaction with the result, which exceeded pre-sale expectations for the well-conformed yearling.
The Saratoga Sale continues through Tuesday with several other notable offerings expected to generate significant interest from major racing operations.
