Woodbine Cares Relaunches Under For the Love of the Racing Community Banner

Woodbine Entertainment has relaunched its philanthropic initiative Woodbine Cares under a renewed banner: “For the Love of the Horse Racing Community,” the organization announced Wednesday.

“This refreshed focus on ‘For the Love of the Horse Racing Community’ reflects our organization’s commitment to what matters most – the people, the horses, and the entire racing community,” said Michael Copeland, CEO of Woodbine Entertainment. “By concentrating our efforts on horse welfare and on those who work tirelessly behind the scenes, Woodbine Cares is helping build a vibrant and sustainable future for Ontario horse racing. We’re investing in the well-being of our equine athletes and the dedicated individuals who care for them, because their success and welfare are the foundation of our sport’s success for generations to come.”

The relaunch includes a significant financial commitment to the racing community.

Woodbine Cares will donate $250,000 annually toward three key focus areas: Equine Welfare & Aftercare, Food Programs, and Support for Backstretch Workers and Racing Workforce Development.

Each area will see major new initiatives implemented as part of the organization’s renewed commitment to supporting the broader racing ecosystem.

The initiative represents Woodbine’s strategic shift toward addressing fundamental needs within the racing community — prioritizing both equine welfare and the human workforce that sustains the industry.

Industry observers note that such targeted philanthropic efforts have become increasingly important as racing organizations work to strengthen their commitment to sustainability and responsible stewardship.

Additional information about specific programs and application processes for support is available through the Woodbine Cares official portal.
